The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Army General Valery Gerasimov, discussed topical issues of international security by phone with the Chairman of the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Mark Milli. This was reported on Tuesday in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
"On November 23, 2021, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Valery Gerasimov, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the United States of America, General Mark Milli, had a telephone conversation, during which the military leaders discussed topical issues of international security," the message says.
On Monday, Milli discussed by phone with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny the security situation in Eastern Europe. According to the document, Milli and Zaluzhny "exchanged views and assessments of the changing security situation in Eastern Europe." On November 19, they also discussed this topic, as well as Russia's actions in the region.
Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov called the information in the Western media about the "plans of the Russian Federation to invade the territory of Ukraine" an "empty and groundless" escalation of tension. He stressed that the movement of the Russian armed forces on the territory of the Russian Federation should not cause concern to anyone, since the Russian Federation does not pose a threat to anyone.
