The parties agreed to increase cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries through strategic military exercises and joint patrols, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reports. "Army General S. K. Shoigu and Colonel-General Wei Fenghe stressed the inviolability of friendship and the strength of ties between Russia and China. We confirmed our readiness to implement the agreements reached at the highest level and expand contacts between the Ministries of Defense of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China. We expressed mutual commitment to the intensification of strategic military exercises and joint patrols by the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China," the message reads.
Shoigu and Wei Fenghe held a working meeting in a videoconference format on Tuesday. "The main topic of the talks was summing up the results of joint sea and air patrols in the Asia-Pacific region this year," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The heads of the military departments of the two countries noted that "thanks to the efforts of the leaders of the two countries, the relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China are maintained at a high level."
"This year, Russian-Chinese military cooperation in all areas has been steadily deepening. The interaction of the armed forces of the two states in the field of organizing combat training events has developed noticeably," the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation informs.
On the Russian side, the meeting was also attended by Navy Commanders-in-Chief Admiral Nikolai Evmenov and VKS Sergey Surovikin, on the Chinese side - Navy Commanders Admiral Dong Jun and Air Force Colonel-General Chang Dingqiu.
