The Russian Federation has handed over to Lebanon satellite images taken on the day of the explosion in the port of Beirut. This was stated on November 22 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a press conference with his Lebanese counterpart Abdullah Bu Habib.
"At the request of the Lebanese government, we have today handed over the materials prepared by Roscosmos, space survey materials, satellite images," the head of Russian diplomacy noted.
According to him, Moscow hopes that the information transmitted will help the ongoing investigation. According to Lavrov, Russia hopes for the establishment of the truth in this matter, he noted during the broadcast on Twitter of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
As the head of Russian diplomacy added, he accepted the invitation of his Lebanese counterpart to visit this country.
On August 4, 2020, an explosion occurred in Beirut, which destroyed the seaport of the city, a thousand houses on its territory.
In April, German companies presented a project to restore these facilities, as well as to transform the territories located next to them into residential areas, beaches and parks. It is estimated at $5-15 billion.
According to the official version of the authorities, about 2.75 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate seized by Lebanese customs six years ago were detonated. Later it turned out that the owner of the ship Rhosus, which delivered a cargo of saltpeter to the port of Beirut in 2013, was a Russian businessman Igor Grechushkin.
In September, it was reported that the cargo of ammonium nitrate detonated in the port of Beirut in 2020 belonged to Savaro. It is part of a network of companies, including offshore ones, backed by Ukrainian businessman Volodymyr Vernobol.
