Moscow. November 21. INTERFAX - Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed on Sunday by phone with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan measures to stabilize the South Caucasus region in the context of the implementation of the agreements on Karabakh.
"The discussion of the situation in the region and the measures taken to stabilize it continued in the context of the implementation of the trilateral agreements on Nagorno-Karabakh of November 9, 2020 and January 11 this year," the Kremlin's press service said.
"Nikol Pashinyan expressed gratitude for Russia's active mediation efforts. Further contacts have been agreed," the message says.
The situation on the eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the Syunik region escalated on November 13. On November 15, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a meeting of the Security Council that Azerbaijani troops had invaded the country in the eastern direction of the border. The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia reported that the Azerbaijani military crossed the border in the direction of the city of Sisian in the Syunik region in the south of Armenia.
According to the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, seven servicemen were killed during the fighting on November 16, and 10 more soldiers were injured.
The Armenian Defense Ministry, for its part, reported that 13 servicemen were captured, and communication with 24 military personnel was lost as a result of fighting with the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
