The head of Roscosmos stressed that the Russian Federation does not lag behind anyone in terms of military space.
MOSCOW, November 20. /tass/. There is no secret that Russia has been developing anti-satellite weapons for a long time. This was announced by the General Director of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin on Saturday on the air of the YouTube channel "Solovyov Live".
"Anti-satellite weapons have been developed in Russia for a long time, there is no secret about this. It's just that the time has come when the Ministry of Defense conducted tests," Rogozin said.
In his opinion, anti-satellite weapons are an obvious thing that Russia should possess.
"Anti-satellite weapons are an obvious thing that Russia should possess, and not just the grouping that the Ministry of Defense has and which is being withdrawn by our means of withdrawal, which are being made by Roscosmos enterprises," Rogozin said.
He stressed that Russia is not lagging behind anyone in terms of military space. "In terms of military space, we are definitely not lagging behind anyone," Rogozin said.
Russia is concerned that in recent decades, American military intelligence satellites have been working very intensively, he noted.
"There is a topic that cannot but bother us - this is the topic of the militarization of outer space. Gradually, we see how in recent decades the United States, first of all, and their other NATO allies, they are gradually putting more and more into space, maybe not weapons yet, but potential carriers of these weapons. And, of course, the US has a military grouping, an intelligence grouping, it works very intensively. And it can't help but embarrass us, too," he said.
According to Rogozin, now there is an understanding that modern wars will not be contact. "Future wars, God forbid they happen, they will start from outer space," he said.
On Tuesday, the Russian military department announced that tests were conducted, during which an inactive Russian spacecraft was successfully hit. The Defense Ministry stressed that it is carrying out planned activities to strengthen its defense capability and recalled that the main goal of the new US space strategy is to "create a comprehensive military advantage" in this area. The military department stressed that the fragments formed after the defeat of the satellite do not pose a threat to the ISS and satellites, emphasizing that the satellite fragments are included in the main catalog of the domestic space control system and are immediately taken for escort until their existence ceases.
