Kiev. November 20. INTERFAX-UKRAINE - A military advisory and training center of the European Union will be created in Ukraine, this corresponds to the current security agenda and will strengthen further European integration of Ukraine, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kirill Budanov said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
"The decision to open a military advisory and training center of the European Union in Ukraine, which was previously reached at a high level by representatives of our state and the EU, is fully consistent with the security agenda facing the entire democratic world," Budanov said, commenting on the statement by Swedish Defense Minister Peter Gulqvist about the possibility of sending a Swedish military contingent to Ukraine as part of an EU-led training mission.
He stressed that such actions will only strengthen further European integration of Ukraine at the institutional military level, and can also accelerate Euro-Atlantic integration, since the rapid and dangerous events that the Russian government creates for the entire European continent are the biggest systemic challenge that the entire West has faced since the Cold War.
"I am convinced that the EU military center in Ukraine will increasingly integrate Ukraine into the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, will make our state a leading participant in the program of Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO), which will influence the processes of modernization and reform of the entire security bloc of Ukraine," he added.
