Moscow. November 18. INTERFAX - Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev said that the decision on a summit meeting between Russia and the United States will not be delayed, the topics will also be agreed.
"The topics will be agreed, contacts, I think, will not be delayed," Patrushev said on Channel One.
The day before, the press service of the Security Council of the Russian Federation reported that Russia and the United States are preparing contacts at the highest level, as part of their preparation, Patrushev and Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jacob Sullivan had a telephone conversation. On Thursday, the press secretary of the head of the Russian state Dmitry Peskov said that contacts between the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden are expected, but their exact date has not yet been determined.
There is no clarity about the time and format of the Russian-US contact at the highest level, but this topic is relevant, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on November 11.
"Any contact between leaders is an important event in bilateral relations, but given the role that our countries play in world affairs, this is an event of global significance. Therefore, any contact of this kind requires fundamental, deep preparation," Ryabkov said then, answering a question from Interfax.
"Modalities, deadlines, location, and so on are a derivative of how the preparation is going. So far, we have no clarity as to when and in what format such a contact can take place, but the topic is relevant," the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation said.
The Kommersant newspaper previously reported that the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, may hold a videoconference conversation by the end of this year, and then, at the beginning of next year, a personal meeting.
