Political scientist, Director General of the Institute of Regional Problems Dmitry Zhuravlev called the permission to use weapons to Ukrainian border guards a provocation and an actual call for such actions.
In conversation with Lenta.Ru On Thursday, November 18, he expressed the opinion that Ukraine is interested in such actions and incidents, because in this way it will be able to demand an international military presence in the Donbass.
According to Zhuravlev, the purpose of the innovation is not to prevent, but to artificially create conflict scenarios.
"Border guards have always had the right to use weapons, so this innovation can be regarded as a call for such actions," the political scientist is sure.
He also suggested that Ukrainian border guards could open fire on Russian colleagues and say that they wanted to illegally cross the border. We can also talk about "some illegal Russian refugees." Zhuravlev clarified that there are few ordinary people in the border zone, so it is easier to arrange a provocation with the same border guards.
The probability of such an outcome of events, in his opinion, is extremely high. The only question remains whether the West will agree to respond to the call of the Ukrainian authorities.
Earlier on November 18, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the second reading a bill that allows border service employees to use weapons and military equipment to prevent conflicts and provocations, writes NSN. A total of 271 deputies voted for the draft law. The parliament received it for consideration back in March, the 360 TV channel clarifies.
