The Russian Defense Ministry, on behalf of President Vladimir Putin, is evacuating citizens of Russia and other countries from Afghanistan who need to leave given the extremely turbulent situation there, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian leader, told reporters on Thursday.
"There are not only Russian citizens, but also citizens from some CSTO countries, from other countries. This is the evacuation of those citizens who wished, who need to leave the territory of Afghanistan, taking into account the fact that it is extremely and extremely restless there," Peskov said.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, three Il-76 aircraft arrived in Afghanistan to evacuate 380 citizens of the Russian Federation and other countries.
