Washington. November 17th. INTERFAX - Deputy Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General John Hyten, in an interview with CBS, specified information about China's hypersonic missile test conducted this summer.
"They (the Chinese - IF) launched a long-range missile. She flew around the whole world, and then dropped a hypersonic gliding unit that hit a target on the territory of China itself," the general said.
When asked if the block hit the target, Hyten said it was "close enough."
The general believes that the Chinese will one day be able to launch an unexpected nuclear strike on the United States, the TV channel noted.
The missile tests, which took place in August, became known only in October, the media noted, the Financial Times newspaper was the first to report on it.
"The test showed that China has made great progress in the field of hypersonic weapons. Further than the United States believed," the publication noted.
In Washington, the announcement of the test caused serious concern.
