Clashes have taken place on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the newspaper Armenpress reports. As a result, the parties suffered losses in manpower and military equipment. Yerevan turned to Moscow for help in resolving the conflict.
Armenia begins the process of appealing to Russia for help in resolving the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border within the framework of the agreement between the countries concluded in 1997.
As "Armenpress" reports, Secretary of the RA Security Council Armen Grigoryan stated this in an interview with Public Television.
"We consider it necessary to emphasize that since the sovereign territory of Armenia has been attacked, we call on Russia to protect the territorial integrity of Armenia within the framework of the agreement between Armenia and Russia concluded in 1997 and the fulfillment of mutual obligations under this agreement," Grigoryan said.
To the question whether this appeal is oral or it is submitted in writing, Grigoryan replied: "This is an oral appeal, which will have a written procedure. We want to inform the public and our partners that we are starting such a process. We expect help from Russia, and we will have the opportunity to restore the territorial integrity of Armenia," the Secretary of the RA Security Council said.
He added that it has been repeatedly said that the state border of Armenia is a red line for Russia. Armen Grigoryan noted that since May 12, Azerbaijanis have been violating this red line. "In this regard, we appeal to our ally to be able to restore the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia within the framework of our allied obligations," Grigoryan said.
As for the question, does this assistance imply participation in negotiations or assistance by the armed forces? Grigoryan replied. "If it is possible to resolve this situation through negotiations, then through negotiations, if it is impossible to resolve it through negotiations, then provide Armenia with enough military assistance so that Armenia could resolve the situation," he said.
