The United States reiterated its concern about India's purchase of regiments of Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMS). This was announced by the press secretary of the US Department of Defense John Kirby on Monday, November 15.
"We have been very clear to our Indian partners that we are concerned about these systems, I have nothing new to say. The minister visited New Delhi, we talked about it and are definitely concerned about these systems," TASS quoted the Pentagon press secretary as saying from a telephone briefing for journalists.
On November 14, it became known that Russia began to supply India with S-400 air defense systems. According to Dmitry Shugaev, director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, deliveries are on schedule.
On August 25, the head of Shugaev said that the delivery of the first regimental set of S-400 air defense systems to India was planned before the end of the year. Russia began production of the S-400 for India in February 2020.
In 2015, the Indian Defense Procurement Council approved a potential contract. The contract for the supply of S-400 was signed in 2018. Five regiments of the latest air defense systems will cost New Delhi $5.43 billion (more than 3 trillion rubles). This transaction was called the largest in the history of Rosoboronexport.
