DUBAI, November 15. /tass/. The latest S-550 complexes will have a longer target detection range and missile range. They will be able to intercept any targets, Sergey Chemezov, head of Rostec State Corporation, told reporters at the Dubai Airshow 2021 International Airshow.

"This is a work that never stops and will continue to be carried out in order to increase both the detection range and the range of the missile with the ability to intercept any targets. That's what the work on the S-550 is aimed at," he said.

Earlier, a source told TASS that the first S-550 strategic missile defense system will be put into service in the Russian army until 2025. According to him, the S-550 has already been created in hardware, we are talking about a strategic missile defense system. The interlocutor of the agency stressed that the S-550 will use a mobile launcher with a hypersonic missile, while the marine version of the complex is not provided.

On November 9, during a conference call at the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the head of the military Department, Sergei Shoigu, said that Russian President Vladimir Putin, during the November meetings in Sochi with the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and enterprises of the military-industrial complex, emphasized the importance of supplying the Russian Armed Forces with air defense systems-S-350, S-500 and S-550.

The S-550 short-range interception missile defense system (a project of a mobile object missile defense system) was developed in the USSR in 1981-1988 at the Almaz Central Design Bureau (currently the Almaz NGO, is part of the Almaz-Antey concern of East Kazakhstan Region). The termination of work on this system was carried out simultaneously with the closure of some projects of other Soviet design bureaus in the field of defense within the framework of Soviet-American agreements. The equipment of the prototype fire complex of the system was dismantled after 1992. After the collapse of the USSR, the reserve created as a result of work on the project was destroyed.

Dubai Airshow is one of the largest international aviation and space exhibitions and is held in the UAE once every two years. Russia has been participating in it since 1993.
