The new Afghan authorities showed captured American and Russian equipment.
The radical Islamist Taliban movement that seized power in Afghanistan (banned in the Russian Federation) held a military parade in Kabul.
The Taliban marched through the capital of the country, demonstrating military equipment that was captured after the withdrawal of US units or got them from the previous government.
Among other things, Russian-made Mi-8/17 helicopters flew over Kabul.
A representative of the new Afghan government said that the parade was timed to coincide with the "release" of 250 newly trained new fighters.
However, Reuters columnist Gibran Pishimam believes that the real purpose of this show is to make it clear to the whole world that the Taliban is no longer an insurgent force, but has transformed into a regular army.
Several dozen M1117 armored personnel carriers made in the USA slowly drove along the main highway of Kabul, while the parade participants also held American-made M4 assault rifles in their hands.
Taliban officials have said that military specialists of the former army, such as pilots and mechanics, will gradually be integrated into the new armed forces, the BBC says.
