The State Duma adopted in the first reading the draft law "On Amendments to Article 51 of the Federal Law "On Military Duty and Military Service".
Chairman of the Defense Committee Andrey Kartapolov said that the draft law "On Amendments to Article 51 of the Federal Law "On Military Duty and Military Service" is aimed at implementing the Fundamentals of state Policy in the field of nuclear and radiation safety of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2025.
"The bill clarifies the grounds for dismissal for "nuclear servicemen" and will contribute to maintaining the risk of radiation effects on military personnel carrying out work on the operation of nuclear ammunition at the lowest possible level, as well as increasing the combat readiness of formations and military units of nuclear support," Kartapolov said.
A bill on the issue of the age limit for military service has been adopted in the second reading.
Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense Andrey Kartapolov said that currently, according to the current legislation, a new contract on military service can be concluded with servicemen who have the military rank of Marshal of the Russian Federation, Army General, Fleet Admiral, who have reached the age limit for military service until they reach the age of 70.
"The developed draft law proposes to establish that the most experienced and highly qualified military personnel who have the specified military ranks, who have reached the age limit for military service, can enter into a new contract on military service for the period established by the decision of the President of the Russian Federation," Kartapolov added.
The head of the Duma Defense Committee drew attention to the fact that the changes introduced will have a positive impact on ensuring the country's defense and securing senior officers in military service who have extensive experience in military service, have developed professionally important qualities capable of fulfilling tasks to ensure the defense and security of the state under any circumstances.
