The correction of the orbit was necessary for the formation of ballistic conditions before the launch and landing of the Soyuz MS-20 manned spacecraft
MOSCOW, November 11. /tass/. The correction of the orbit of the International Space Station (ISS), previously scheduled for November 16, has been canceled. This was reported to TASS by the press service of Roscosmos on Thursday.
The state corporation recalled that on Wednesday the ISS orbit was adjusted in order to avoid space debris. "The evasion maneuver performed the day before was calculated by the ballistics of the TsNIIMash Flight Control Center (part of the Roscosmos state Corporation) thus, the need for correction on November 16 has disappeared," Roscosmos said.
On Wednesday, Roscosmos told TASS that a fragment of the Chinese satellite Fengyun-1C will approach the ISS around 04:00 Moscow time on November 12. To avoid a collision with space debris, the height of the ISS orbit was increased by about 1.2 km.
The orbit correction planned for November 16 was necessary to form ballistic conditions before the launch and landing of the Soyuz MS-20 manned spacecraft. The launch of the Soyuz MS-20 manned spacecraft to the ISS with two space tourists is scheduled for December 8, 2021. The duration of the flight will be 12 days.
The Soyuz MS-20 will be managed by Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin. Japanese billionaire entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa and his business assistant Yozo Hirano will also be on board.
