It became known about the confrontation between the Buk air defense system and the Smerch MLRS during the war in Karabakh.
Azerbaijan's public television would have shown a story about last year's 44-day war in Karabakh. The officers involved in the conflict, for the first time, told about how they used the Buk air defense system to protect against the attack of the Smerch MLRS. The anti-aircraft system managed to intercept two rockets. It is known that the Azerbaijani army was armed with Belarusian Buk-MB, deeply modernized versions of the Soviet Buk-M1 air defense systems.
The Buk self-propelled anti-aircraft missile system was adopted in 1979. It was designed to combat maneuvering aerodynamic targets at low and medium altitudes. Subsequently, the system was improved. It is capable of hitting fighter jets, helicopters, cruise and tactical ballistic missiles. The Buk system has participated in many wars and conflicts.
