The Scientific Center of the Russian Ground Forces is working on the creation of a new complex in the form of a controlled electrified barrier to protect especially important military infrastructure facilities from group drone attacks, according to the website of Rospatent .
The invention consists of two mesh domes, electronic detection equipment, an automated operator's workplace and an electrical energy conversion device, as well as a power source and a video surveillance system.
The barrier, according to the document, will allow destroying and driving away unmanned aerial vehicles with the help of an electronic UAV detection system.
It is reported that the cost-effectiveness in using the invention is its advantage, since the use of traditional protection systems in a group attack of small-sized drones is costly, besides significantly reduces the likelihood of hitting such targets.
The invention was patented at the end of October 2021.
On November 10, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu spoke about the work on the creation of a new S-550 anti-aircraft missile system.
Military expert Vladislav Shurygin told Izvestia that the creation of the S-550 air defense system in the Russian Federation is a move towards space, since the Russian Federation should think about anti-satellite defense. According to him, the complexes should be as mobile and cheap as possible in order to fight drones, but at the same time they need to get at least targets in near space, Shurygin added.
He also noted that currently there is a merger of air defense and missile defense (ABM).
