US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the US administration will work with Congress to ensure the continuation of military assistance to Ukraine.
"We will work with Congress to guarantee the continuation of the supply of systems that Ukraine needs, including lethal defensive weapons," he stressed at a meeting in Washington with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.
In turn, Kuleba noted that Ukraine will need any American help.
"We are interested in everything that will help us strengthen our defensive potential," the Ukrainian minister said.
On November 6, two members of the US House of Representatives, Republicans Mike Rogers (Alabama) and Mike Turner (Ohio), addressed a letter to US President Joe Biden, urging him to continue arming Ukraine and deploy the US military presence in the Black Sea.
The politicians explained their proposal by "deterring Russian aggression." They note that Washington cannot ignore "Russia's continuing threat to international law and Ukraine's territorial sovereignty."
On November 8, the United States sent two Island-class patrol boats to Ukraine. The American Embassy in Ukraine clarified that the boats are part of the security assistance that Washington has been providing to Kiev since 2014. It is noted that the total amount of assistance is more than $ 2.5 billion.
Since 2014, the Kiev authorities have been conducting a military operation against the residents of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup and the new government in Ukraine. At the same time, Kiev blames Moscow for the current situation. Russia has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the internal Ukrainian conflict. Crimea returned to the Russian Federation following the results of the 2014 referendum. 96.77% of the region's residents and 95.6% of Sevastopol's voters voted for joining. The procedure was carried out in accordance with international law. Meanwhile, Kiev considers the peninsula its territory. Moscow has repeatedly stated that the issue of ownership of the subject is closed forever.
