As part of the large-scale exercises "Unbreakable Brotherhood-2021" at the training ground in Tatarstan, the forces of the CSTO member states launched a large-scale conditional peacekeeping operation. According to the press service of the CSTO Joint Staff, the main efforts are focused on creating buffer and demilitarized separation zones. The troops will have to organize control over the actions of the warring parties in order to create conditions for the conclusion of peace agreements.
"According to the plan of the exercise, in accordance with the decision of the Collective Security Council, a peacekeeping operation is to be conducted in the area of responsibility, 32 kilometers deep and 98 kilometers wide. In the buffer zone, the participants of the exercise need to equip 48 observation posts and 19 checkpoints, as well as take 11 important state facilities under protection," said Vladislav Shchegrikovich, press secretary of the CSTO Joint Staff.
In total, 1800 people representing the armed forces and law enforcement agencies of the CSTO member states, as well as about 300 weapons, including 8 Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters, two Su-34 multifunctional fighter-bombers, are taking part in the exercise.
