A new S-550 anti-aircraft missile system will appear in Russia, and work is underway to create it. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Defense about the recent series of military meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the agency, during the meetings, Putin made "a special emphasis on the importance of advancing the development of domestic air defense systems-missile defense, the supply of S-350, S-500, S-550 systems to the Armed Forces." The department did not provide any other information about the new system.
Also at a meeting with Putin, it became known that in the near future the first serial sample of the S-500 will be delivered to the troops. The Russian leader noted that over the past four years, the Armed Forces have replenished 25 S-400 complexes, and more than 20 S-300 complexes have been modernized.
In July, the Russian S-500 Prometheus anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) was called one of the most modern air defense systems in the world and considered it a special challenge to NATO. The 19FortyFive portal explained that the new SAM is capable of hitting any existing and projected means of attack at any height and speed. At the same time, it is more resistant to electronic interference.
