Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said on November 8 that the United States continues to observe "disturbing" movements of Russian armed forces near the border with Ukraine, and called for their purpose to be disclosed.
Kirby's briefing with journalists was broadcast on Twitter by the US Department of Defense on November 8.
"We continue to see disturbing movements of the Russian military in the western regions [of the Russian Federation] and near Ukraine. We urge them to make their intentions more transparent," he said.
The spokesman added that the United States continues to monitor the situation. At the same time, he noted that he was not going to disclose information from Washington's intelligence services about Moscow's possible plans to move the armed forces.
The United States calls on Russia to "abide by the Minsk Agreements and respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine," Kirby stressed.
Earlier, on November 5, the US Department of Defense reported that it was monitoring the "unusual" activity of Russian troops near the border with Ukraine. Then the Pentagon press secretary stressed that any actions by Moscow aimed at escalation or aggression would seriously concern the United States.
At the same time, the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Sergei Shaptala, pointed out that there is no buildup of Russian forces near the borders of Ukraine.
On November 1, Politico published an article showing satellite images that allegedly showed the buildup of Russian armored units, tanks and self-propelled artillery near the city of Yelnya, allegedly on the border with Ukraine. However, the city is located on the territory of Belarus.
The media data was denied, including in Kiev. The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of the country, Alexey Danilov, pointed out that reports of Russian tanks pulling together near the borders with Ukraine are disinformation.
In turn, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that satellite images of Russian tanks are "low-quality stuffing." He also noted that the movement of the army on the territory of Russia concerns only Moscow. Russia does not pose a danger and has not threatened anyone, Peskov stressed.
