Turkey has successfully tested its Siper long-range surface-to-air missile.
This was announced by a senior official of the country's Defense Ministry, the Daily Sabah newspaper writes.
Tests of the domestic air defense system, which is planned to be adopted in 2023, will be continued, the head of the Turkish Defense Industry Department, Ismail Demir, wrote on Twitter.
According to him, Turkey will continue to produce new weapons and will have up to six different air defense systems of its own.
The Siper project is headed by the Turkish defense companies ASELSAN, ROKETSAN and the Council for Scientific and Technical Research of Turkey.
In addition to Siper, which is expected to compete with the Russian S-400, Korkut (anti-aircraft self-propelled gun), Sungur (portable anti-aircraft missile system, MANPADS) and Hisar (short- and medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems) are also being developed, Eadaily says, referring to the Turkish edition.
