Two members of the US House of Representatives, Republicans Mike Rogers (Alabama) and Mike Turner (Ohio), addressed a letter to the President of the United States Joe Biden, urging him to continue arming Ukraine and deploy the US military presence in the Black Sea. This was reported on Friday, November 5, by the Defense News publication.
"In connection with the recent concentration of Russian troops on the Ukrainian border, we call on your administration to take immediate measures to support Ukraine in the form of intelligence and weapons," the publication quotes the document.
The congressmen explained their proposal to deploy the US presence in the Black Sea by "deterring Russian aggression." They note that Washington cannot ignore "Russia's continuing threat to international law and Ukraine's territorial sovereignty."
Rogers and Turner also suggested starting intelligence-sharing activities between the United States and Ukraine to "prevent further escalation of the situation."
On the same day, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said that the agency was monitoring the "unusual" activity of Russian troops near the border with Ukraine. At the same time, he refused to comment on Russia's intentions. The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Sergei Shaptala, pointed out that there is no buildup of Russian forces near the borders of Ukraine, the situation is controlled.
On November 3, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said: Western media reports that Russia is allegedly pulling troops to the border with Ukraine are not true.
On November 1, Politico published an article showing satellite images that allegedly showed the buildup of Russian armored units, tanks and self-propelled artillery near the town of Yelnya, allegedly located on the border with Ukraine. However, the city is located near the territory of Belarus.
The media data was refuted, including in Kiev. The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of the country, Alexey Danilov, pointed out that reports of Russian tanks pulling together near the borders with Ukraine are disinformation.
