The counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported the exposure of a colonel of the country's armed forces, the commander of one of the units. The man is suspected of illegally collecting secret military documents, the press service of the SBU reported on November 5.
It is noted that during the search he found a technique on which secret information was stored. According to security officials, the serviceman allegedly maintained close contacts with the Russian military. It is also reported that he has Russian citizenship.
A criminal case has been initiated under the article on the disclosure of military information constituting a state secret.
"Further investigative actions are continuing, within the framework of which the version about the collection of the above-mentioned information by him on the instructions of the special services of Russia is being checked," the press service added.
In June, FSB officers exposed and expelled from Russia an agent of the Ukrainian special services who had been providing "advisory assistance" to the SBU for a long time. The man's personal electronic devices, on which messages from SBU employees were stored, were seized. They offered to assist them in solving their work issues, "with the ultimate goal of harming the security and interests of Russia."
In March, the SBU announced that it had stopped the espionage activities of an alleged KGB agent of Belarus, who was going to establish a channel for transporting weapons across the border.According to the security forces, the man had to collect information about the state of security of the state border of Ukraine, the order of its protection, technical equipment and the number of border guards. In addition, the curators allegedly demanded that the agent establish channels for transporting weapons and dual-use goods across the state border.
