New York (UN). November 3. INTERFAX - The First Committee of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday rejected a draft resolution proposed by Russia that provides for updating the international mechanism for investigating the use of chemical weapons.
According to the results of the vote, 64 members of the committee opposed the Russian proposal, 31 people supported it, and 77 abstained.
The First Committee deals with disarmament and related international security issues that affect the international community and seeks solutions to global problems in the context of the international security regime.
The draft resolution proposed by Russia was aimed at improving the effectiveness of this mechanism as an instrument in the field of international chemical and biological safety. The Russian Federation pointed out the relevance of the efforts of the international community with the assistance of the UN to strengthen its expert and technical potential.
