President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted to the Verkhovna Rada the candidacy of former Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Reznikov for the post of Minister of Defense of the country. The Ukrainian leader intends to personally present it at a meeting of the parliament, it follows from the relevant draft resolution.
"I make an idea about the appointment of Alexey Reznikov to the post of Minister of Defense of Ukraine. I will represent you personally at the plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada," reads the document posted on the parliament's website on Wednesday, November 3.
A day earlier it became known that five members of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, including Reznikov, wrote a letter of resignation. Defense Minister Andrei Taran, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Roman Abramovsky, Minister of Economy Alexey Lyubchenko (First Deputy Prime Minister), Minister for Strategic Industries Oleg Urusky resigned.
At the plenary session on November 3, the Verkhovna Rada considered these personnel issues. Thus, the dismissal of Andrei Taran was supported by 341 parliamentarians with the required minimum of 226 votes. His place, presumably, will be taken by Reznikov, who was also dismissed.
In addition, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dismissed Alexey Lyubchenko and Oleg Urusky.
On November 2, the parliamentary faction of the Ukrainian party "Opposition Platform - For Life" demanded that the Verkhovna Rada consider the resignation of the government amid the crisis in the energy and medical spheres, as well as form an anti-crisis government. According to the co-chairman of the faction Yuriy Boyko, it is necessary to dismiss "irresponsible bureaucrats and form an anti-crisis government."
