Yerevan. November 2. INTERFAX - The Constitutional Court of Armenia recognized the constitutional provision of the law, on the basis of which the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic Onik Gasparyan was dismissed from office.
"The Constitutional Court recognized the provisions of Part 3 of Article 40 of the law "On Military Service and the status of a serviceman" as corresponding to the Basic Law," the press secretary of the Constitutional Court Eva Tovmasyan told the Armenian media.
On March 10, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian appealed to the Constitutional Court with a request to decide whether the provisions of the law "On Military Service and the status of a serviceman" correspond to the Constitution of Armenia.
The situation in Armenia sharply escalated on February 25 after the General Staff of the Armed Forces issued a statement demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the government. This statement came after Armenian President Armen Sarkissian signed a decree on February 24 on the release of Tyran Khachatryan from the post of First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia.
On February 25, Pashinyan sent a petition to the President of Armenia to dismiss Onik Gasparyan, the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, but Sargsyan did not sign the relevant decree, returning him back to the government.
