MOSCOW, Nov 2 - RIA Novosti. Western media publications, according to which Russia is pulling troops to the Ukrainian border, are a propaganda operation, the quality of which leaves much to be desired, experts interviewed by RIA Novosti said.
So they commented on an article by the American edition of Politico, which published satellite images, which, according to him, demonstrate the deployment of the Russian military "on the border with Ukraine" – namely, in the area of Yelnya in the Smolensk region, which does not border with Ukraine.
As the former head of the international treaty department of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Evgeny Buzhinsky, noted, the American edition did not even bother to check the geography.
A similar opinion is shared by a well-known military expert, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko, who stated that such propaganda campaigns launched by the establishment of Western countries through local media have become routine.
"We are already used to the fact that every one or two months the West throws various kinds of horror stories into the information space, which should confirm Russia's aggressiveness and allegedly preparing for an attack on Ukraine. It should be considered as a disinformation event, there is another large-scale campaign to discredit the Russian Federation and shake up the situation," he said.
"We have no "chaotic movements" of the Armed Forces, as Western journalists write about it, no, all combat training activities are carried out according to plan," he added.
Earlier, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that the United States is monitoring the situation on the border of Russia and Ukraine in connection with reports of "unusual activity" of the Russian Federation.
Kiev and Western states have recently expressed concern about the alleged intensification of "aggressive actions" by Russia near the borders of Ukraine. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia moves troops within its territory and at its discretion. According to him, this does not threaten anyone and should not worry anyone.
