Moscow. November 2. INTERFAX - Italian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Giorgio Starace believes that at the moment it is extremely important to make efforts to restart a constructive dialogue between Russia and NATO, he said in an interview published on Tuesday in the newspaper Kommersant.
"I had the honor to be the ambassador of a country extremely close to Russia, at a time when Russia is experiencing difficulties with others, as we saw quite recently, when Russia decided to suspend the work of its representation at NATO, as well as the work of the alliance structures on its territory. I think that in this context it is extremely important - relying, among other things, on the trust that Italy has earned thanks to its unwavering balance - to make efforts to restart a constructive dialogue," Starace said.
In his opinion, the dialogue between Russia and NATO can "benefit everyone."
"This concerns large-scale global challenges - healthcare, the fight against climate change and the energy transition - as well as the actions that the international community is obliged to take in crisis regions, for example in Libya and Afghanistan," the Italian ambassador said.
He stressed that "it is impossible to count on achieving positive results on these issues without cooperation with Moscow."
Starace also expressed hope for restarting relations between Russia and the European Union.
