Beijing. November 1st. INTERFAX - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned at a meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken that Washington's policy towards Taiwan is fraught with deterioration of Sino-American relations and aggravation of the situation in the Taiwan Strait, Chinese media reported.
"Wang Yi noted that the Taiwan issue is the most sensitive issue between China and the United States. If it is wrong to approach him, it will undermine and cause global damage to Sino-American relations," the reports say.
The Chinese diplomat noted that recently the situation in the Taiwan Strait area has worsened due to attempts by the Taiwanese authorities to violate the principle of the existence of one China, "this was also facilitated by the connivance and support of the forces of "Taiwan independence" by the American side.
Wang Yi said that "to stop the development of the trend aimed at the declaration of Taiwan's independence means to preserve peace in the Taiwan Strait."
"We advise the American side to be aware of the seriousness of the danger of a policy aimed at "Taiwan independence." We demand that the United States pursue a genuine, not a fake "one China" policy, so that the United States fulfills its obligations to China (...) and they didn't say one thing, but did another," Wang Yi stressed.
Wang Yi also expressed China's serious concern about various issues on which the American side harms China's legitimate rights and interests, and asked the American side to "change its tone and promote the return of Sino-American relations to the path of healthy development."
The sides also exchanged views on such important issues as climate change, energy supply, Iran's nuclear program, the situation on the Korean peninsula, Myanmar and Afghanistan, and expressed readiness to maintain dialogue on solving various global problems.
The US State Department, reporting on the meeting, noted: "Blinken stressed the importance of maintaining open communication lines in order to responsibly approach the competition between the US and China." "He pointed out the areas where the interests of the two countries overlap and in which we could work together - these are the DPRK, Myanmar, Iran, Afghanistan and the climate crisis," the US State Department said in a statement published on Sunday.
