It will allow university students to undergo initial military training on the job
TASS, October 30. The military training center will open on the basis of the North-Eastern Federal University (NEFU) named after M. K. Ammosov in Yakutia. This was reported on Saturday in the press service of the regional government.
"A military training center will appear on the basis of NEFU, it will become an analogue of the military department and will allow university students to undergo initial military training on the job. The selection is planned to be carried out among students enrolled in bachelor's and specialty programs," the report says.
In May 2021, the chairman of the Government of Yakutia, Andrei Tarasenko, during an All-Russian conference call under the leadership of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu, noted the lack of the possibility of initial military training for students in universities of the republic. Shoigu supported the proposal to open a military training center on the basis of NEFU and instructed the commander of the Eastern Military District to resolve the issue no later than this year.
Currently, the leadership of the republic and the university is conducting preparatory work. "Work is underway to equip classrooms and other teaching and support facilities," the press service explained. In addition, the possibility of training teachers on the basis of educational institutions of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation is being discussed.
The Military Department of the Yakut State University (the former name of NEFU - approx. TASS) was disbanded in 2007. On its basis, cycles of combined arms, medical and automotive training functioned.
Northeastern Federal University is a diversified federal university in Yakutsk, the largest higher education institution in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. More than 19 thousand people study at the university.
