Washington. October 29. INTERFAX - US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced the allocation of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and called on the international community to also support the urgent humanitarian needs of the country.
"As part of our continued commitment to the people of Afghanistan, the United States today announced the allocation of nearly $144 million in humanitarian aid to those affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis," Blinken said in a statement released by the State Department.
It is noted that thus the total volume of US humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and Afghan refugees in the region in 2021 will amount to almost $474 million.
"Our unwavering commitment to the people of Afghanistan is unquestionable. We will work vigorously to support all those in vulnerable situations (...). We welcome the contribution of other sponsors to this international response and encourage others to generously support the urgent humanitarian needs of Afghanistan and continue to support the Afghan people," the US Secretary of State said.
On August 31, US President Joe Biden officially announced the end of the 20-year presence of the United States and its NATO allies in Afghanistan.
