The United States should not fixate on China, while hoping for the decline of Russia. This is written by the journalists of the publication Foreign Affairs.
According to the authors of the material, Michael Kofman and Andrea Kendall-Taylor, first of all, Russia will remain a military force to be reckoned with.
"The United States should think of Russia not as a weakening power, but as a persistent power willing and able to threaten the interests of US national security for at least the next 10-20 years," the journalists believe.
At the same time, analysts drew attention to the fact that Russia will still remain a "fairly good" power, as well as a "long-term rival" even in a possible situation when China becomes a more significant threat.
At the same time, Kofman and Kendall-Taylor pointed out the danger of cooperation between Moscow and Beijing. According to them, the governments of the two countries have formed a strategic partnership, exchanging technical and material support. Such decisions, as the journalists noted, were made due to pressure from the West.
Analysts recommended that the American side pay attention to the above facts and take actions that will allow to establish relations with the Russian side, and not mistakenly count on the decline of the country.
Earlier, on October 22, Defense News reported that while the United States is trying to shift the attention of partners in the North Atlantic Alliance to the confrontation with China, Eastern European allies urge not to forget about the "threat" from Russia. The author of the material stressed that the problems that continue to escalate between the Russian Federation and the West are of particular concern in Eastern Europe.
On October 21, the British edition of The Telegraph noted that Washington was far behind in the hypersonic race, in which Moscow and Beijing are leading. According to journalists, the Russian Federation has strengthened its defense potential with the help of the Sarmat and Avangard missile systems, which have been tested since 2019. While the US Department of Defense is paranoid about the failure in the development of hypersonic weapons, the publication states.
