NASA Director Bill Nelson admitted the possibility of the existence of aliens. At the same time, he expressed the hope that unidentified flying objects (UFOs) do not appear as a result of the actions of some enemy on the Ground.
"I talked to the pilots, and they know that they saw something, and their radars recorded it. And they don't know what it is. And we don't know what it is. We hope that there is no such enemy here on Earth who has such technology," he said during a live dialogue organized by Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics.
"These are questions that we are constantly trying to answer. Who is there? Who are we? How did we get here? How did we become what we are? How did we develop? How have we become civilized? And are there the same conditions in a universe that has billions of other suns and billions of other galaxies? It's so big, I can't imagine it," he added.
The director of NASA admitted that other intelligent life may exist somewhere else in our universe or in another.
"Who am I to say that planet Earth is the only habitat for a form of life that is civilized and organized like ours," Nelson said.
"This is the most honest and frank comment to date by the director of NASA on the UFO problem and, perhaps, the most thoughtful statement related to UFOs ever made by an acting head," Christopher Mellon, a former deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, wrote on his Twitter page.
Earlier, on August 29, the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said that there are no facts of the existence of humanoid aliens, but various forms of life can exist in the Universe. The head of the state corporation admitted that it could be both living beings and cells, and viruses, and plants.
Before that, on June 25, US intelligence called UFOs a threat to national security. The report of the national intelligence of the country noted the existence of a risk that UFOs will clutter the airspace and interfere with pilots. The National Intelligence Service reported 144 cases of alleged UFOs, which experts could not explain.
On June 10, Nelson has already spoken out on the subject of UFOs. According to him, a few years ago, as a member of the US Senate Committee on the Armed Forces, he had access to reports of military pilots who recorded such phenomena. According to the head of NASA, UFO reports require serious study.
