The UK can use against Russia, China and Iran a special unit of the Ministry of Defense from former employees of the City of London and specialists in the field of finance. This became known on Friday, October 22.
A secret expert group is teaching the British armed forces the skills of economic warfare — how to protect the country from cyber attacks and the targeted spread of disinformation, the Financial Times newspaper reported.
This unit was formed six years ago, it was actively used to counter the Islamic State group (IS, recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in the Russian Federation) in Iraq and Syria. Its members are groups of financial reservists who advise other special forces, intelligence and the 77th Brigade of the British Army, specializing in electronic and psychological warfare.
As noted in the publication's material, the demand for specialists who understand international financial flows is associated with the allegedly growing threat from Russia and China.
"All of them are miniature states with their own economies (Russia, Iran, China. - Ed.). Why let the opponents enter the battlefield if you can deprive them of resources before it comes to that?"- told the newspaper Marshal of British aviation Edward Stringer, who used to be subordinate to the "financial working group".
On October 17, the former director of the Main Directorate of External Security (DGSE) of France, Bernard Bazholet, said that in 2017, a "Russian mole" worked in the country's Ministry of Defense. At the same time, he did not provide any evidence of his words.
