Moscow. October 20. INTERFAX - Russia is considering the possibility of resuming the work of the Consulate General in Mazar-I-Sharif in Afghanistan, the special representative of the President for Afghanistan, Director of the second Asia Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Zamir Kabulov said on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
"This can happen, we are working on it in an interdepartmental format, security issues must be guaranteed to be resolved here. The Taliban (the movement is prohibited in the Russian Federation - IF), which, by the way, is confirmed by the case, guarantee the security of not only Russian diplomatic consular institutions," Kabulov said when asked about the possibility of resuming the work of the Consulate General in Afghanistan.
"The situation in Mazar-I-Sharif is stable. This gives grounds for our management to consider the issue of renewal. This is still a maturing idea that has not yet been translated into concrete steps," he added.
In early July, Russia suspended the work of the Consulate General in Mazar-I-Sharif for security reasons "until the situation is clarified."
