Moscow. October 30. INTERFAX - The North Atlantic Alliance is strengthening its military infrastructure in the immediate vicinity of the borders of the Union State of Russia and Belarus, the military and political situation is difficult, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.
"The advanced presence of the NATO bloc is increasing near the borders of the Union State of Russia and Belarus, its military infrastructure is being improved, stocks of weapons, military equipment and materiel are being created, troop transfer measures are being worked out," Shoigu said at a joint board of the defense ministries of Russia and Belarus on Wednesday.
"Thus, an armored brigade of the United States Army and four multinational battalion tactical groups have been deployed to Poland and the Baltic States. The headquarters of the coalition divisions of the Alliance have been formed in Romania, Poland and Latvia. The capacity of port and airfield infrastructures is increasing," Shoigu said.
According to him, "the number of NATO's priority engagement forces has almost doubled - from 25 to 40 thousand troops."
"Washington is deploying Aegis Eshor anti-missile systems in Romania and Poland. At the same time, the versatility of their launchers makes it possible to use, along with anti-missiles, Tomahawk cruise missiles and promising strike weapons developed by the Pentagon," the Russian Defense Minister noted.
He stressed the importance of meeting with Belarusian colleagues in person, despite the pandemic, because of the difficult military-political situation.
