The meeting will discuss joint exercises and training of Korean officers in Russia
Moscow. October 20. INTERFAX - Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Ground Forces Oleg Salyukov will discuss military cooperation between the two countries with his South Korean counterpart Nam Yong Sin and the country's Defense minister So Uk, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
According to the Information Department of the Ministry, the delegation headed by Salyukov arrived in Korea to participate in the Seoul International Exhibition "ADEX-2021".
"During the visit, a meeting is planned with the Minister of National Defense of Korea, General So-wook, and the commander of the ground forces, General Nam Yong-sin," the message says.
According to the department, the main topics of the meetings will be "issues of developing cooperation between the main command of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the command of the ground forces of the Republic of Korea, training Korean officers at universities of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, conducting joint combat training events, including exercises, as well as the participation of Korean servicemen in the army international games."
The visit will take place against the background of reports about the DPRK's ballistic missile tests. So, according to media reports with reference to the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the South Korean army, the DPRK tested a short-range ballistic missile on Tuesday. The launch caused concern in Tokyo, where they believe that the missile could have been launched from a submarine. North Korea has conducted a number of missile launches of various classes over the past few months.
