SEOUL, October 20. /tass/. The Republic of Korea is completing preparations for the launch of the first Nuri launch vehicle of its own design and production. According to the plan, it should launch on October 21 from the Naro cosmodrome in Kohin-gun County of Jeolla-Namdo Province, the Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technologies reported on Wednesday.
On the morning of October 20, the transportation of a 200-ton three-stage rocket from the assembly hangar to the second launch complex was completed. The distance of 1.8 km was successfully covered in 80 minutes. At the end of the preparatory work, Nuri is installed on the starting table, it is planned to complete the power connection and refueling by the end of the day.
In the process of preparation, careful work will be carried out to check the rocket for gas leaks and plugging of connecting parts. Engineers check all indicators, including electricity supply, pressure level and internal temperature, the ministry notes.
South Korean scientists have been developing a launch vehicle since 2010. Funds in the amount of 2 trillion won ($1.79 billion) were allocated for the implementation of the project. The first launch of the rocket is planned with a mock-up payload. In May 2022, it is planned to launch a 200-kilogram satellite into orbit with its help.
