Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu outlined threats from Afghanistan that are relevant for Russia and Iran.
"We can continue to do this work in different regions, taking into account the fact that the situation is not getting easier. We are talking about Afghanistan and the threats that exist today from this region. This is drug trafficking and the appearance of ISIS (banned in the Russian Federation) on the territory of neighboring states," the minister said during a meeting with the Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Bagheri.
The head of the Defense Ministry added that both displaced persons and Americans who left Afghanistan have a significant impact on the situation, because they continue to negotiate with different countries on the issue of supporting refugees from Afghanistan.
"We certainly have something to discuss to work in this direction. Today I propose to consider the most significant issues of Russian-Iranian cooperation in the military field," Shoigu said, commenting on the joint opposition to terrorism by Russia and Iran in Syria.
Shoigu also said that Russia is ready to support the multifaceted nature of military cooperation with Iran, Zvezda TV reported.
