Iran and Russia will soon hold a meeting of the Commission on military-technical cooperation (MTC).
This will be given a new incentive, said the chief of the Iranian General Staff Mohammad Bagheri.
"A meeting of the joint military-technical commission will be held in Tehran soon. I think that our cooperation in this area will develop," he said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV channel (VGTRK).
"We are making efforts to develop a long-term roadmap that will give a new impetus to our cooperation in this area," Bagheri said.
"Due to the fact that our country has been living under sanctions for more than 40 years, we produce the lion's share of weapons ourselves. But there are some aspects that we have not been able to translate into practical production or economic considerations do not allow them to be implemented. And then we turn to our Russian colleagues and conclude military contracts," he said, answering a question about the prospects of military-technical cooperation with Russia after the lifting of restrictions on Iran by the UN Security Council.
"In particular, after the lifting of UN sanctions, the purchase of weapons is actively developing. In addition, the situation in the region pushes us to such cooperation," Bagheri said.
