MOSCOW, October 19. /tass/. The Russian Defense Ministry mediated the release of five Armenian army soldiers from Azerbaijani captivity. This was reported on Tuesday in the Russian military department.
"Today, on October 19, with the mediation of the Russian side, the Azerbaijani authorities released five Armenian prisoners who were taken to Yerevan on a Russian Aerospace Forces plane," the message reads.
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, negotiations on the return of prisoners were held by the deputy commander of the Southern Military District, Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov, and the commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh, Lieutenant General Gennady Anashkin.
"The Russian side will continue to work to ensure compliance with the provisions of the trilateral Agreement on the cessation of armed conflict," the Defense Ministry stressed.
Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that he hopes for the release of Armenian prisoners of war and other detained persons by Azerbaijan without preconditions, and in turn is ready to complete the transfer to Baku of maps of minefields of those territories that passed to Azerbaijan as a result of military operations in Karabakh in the fall of 2020.
