Tension is growing on the border between Poland and Belarus due to a number of minor incidents, but what is happening now can only be a harbinger of future problems.
Analyst Sarah White came to this conclusion in a publication on the 19fortyfive portal. In early September, she writes, Russia and Belarus announced that they were in the process of economic integration.
The author suggests that the creation of an economic basis can become the basis for further integration, including military integration. As an argument, the large-scale joint exercises "West-2021", held on the territory of the two countries, are cited. Another worrying moment for NATO countries is the purchase of S-400 complexes by Belarus. Earlier, some media reported that several units have already been placed near the Polish border.
The rapprochement between Russia and Belarus may push NATO's eastern flank further west, Sarah White believes. She notes that the further integration of the Russian Federation and Belarus poses a threat to NATO countries that cannot be underestimated.
