Moscow. October 18. INTERFAX - Russia offers NATO to authorize the ambassador of one of the organization's member countries in Moscow to carry out urgent contacts with Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said
"The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Belgium will be authorized to maintain emergency contacts with the headquarters of the alliance. At the discretion of the alliance, one of the ambassadors of NATO member countries in Moscow can perform similar functions," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier on Monday that Russia, in response to NATO's actions, is suspending the work of its permanent mission to the alliance, including the work of the chief military representative.
In addition, Russia suspends the activities of the NATO military liaison mission in Moscow, the accreditation of its employees is revoked from November 1. The activities of the NATO Information Bureau in Moscow are also being terminated.
"If NATO has any urgent matters, they can contact our ambassador in Belgium on these issues. To the ambassador who ensures bilateral relations," Lavrov said.
According to the minister, "the international secretariat of NATO has already been notified" of Russia's retaliatory measures.
