The President of the Russian Federation does not rule out attempts of direct expansion of terrorists from the territory of Afghanistan to the CIS countries
Moscow. October 13. INTERFAX - Russian President Vladimir Putin said that issues related to the terrorist threat from Afghanistan will be discussed at the CIS summit next Friday.
"Of course, we will also consider this topic at the upcoming CIS summit. The situation in Afghanistan is not easy, you know it perfectly well," Putin said at a meeting with the heads of the CIS special services, which was held via videoconference.
He stressed that after the final withdrawal of American troops, power in this country passed into the hands of the Taliban (representatives of the Taliban terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation), who set their own rules, their own rules. "At the same time, a number of groups of international terrorists from ISIS (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) continue to operate in the country. Militants with combat experience are actively being drawn there from Iraq and Syria," Putin said.
The Russian President added: "Therefore, it is possible that terrorists may try to destabilize the situation in neighboring countries, including the CIS countries, up to the beginning of direct expansion."
In this regard, Putin noted, it is important to constantly monitor the situation on the Afghan border and be ready to counter the militants. To do this, the President of the Russian Federation added, it is necessary to coordinate the work of the CIS law enforcement agencies and, if necessary, conduct joint special operations.
