The Russian Defense Ministry will continue to pay attention to the functioning of the seventh Russian military base in Abkhazia, the head of the Russian military department said

MOSCOW, October 13. /TASS/. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu at a meeting with President of the Republic of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania discussed issues of alliance and security in Transcaucasia. This was reported on Wednesday in the Russian military department.

"During the meeting, military aspects of the implementation of the treaty between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Abkhazia on alliance and strategic partnership, as well as security issues in the Transcaucasian region were discussed," the message reads.

Earlier it was reported that Bzhania went on a working visit to Moscow, where he will hold a number of meetings in the presidential administration and in the government of the Russian Federation.

The Russian Defense Ministry will continue to pay attention to the functioning of the seventh Russian military base in Abkhazia, as it is a guarantee of stability and a guarantee of security, Shoigu said.

"The relations between the armed forces of our countries are decorated with all the necessary documents. It is extremely important for us that the armed forces of the Republic of Abkhazia are armed and mobile. We will continue to pay sufficient attention to the functioning of the seventh military base [in Gudauta], as it is a guarantee of stability and a guarantee of security. I am sure that all issues related to military cooperation between our countries will be resolved promptly and efficiently," Shoigu is quoted as saying.

The President of Abkhazia noted that the name of Sergei Shoigu is "widely known in Abkhazia" because "in the most difficult times" he was there. "During the pandemic, thanks to you, a military hospital was deployed twice in our republic. We couldn't have done without your help. Thank you," said Bzhania. The President of Abkhazia and the head of the Russian Defense Ministry discussed the financing of the modernization of the armed forces of the republic.
