The Russian Defense Ministry has transferred to Serbia a battery of Russian anti-aircraft missile and cannon complexes (ZRPC) "Pantsir–S" to participate in the Russian-Serbian exercises "Slavic Shield - 2021". This was reported on October 13 in the Russian military department.
The air defense unit was delivered to the territory of the republic by military transport aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces. The Pantsir-S battery will be placed on the territory of the Serbian Batajnica airbase. She will join the joint mixed air defense group, which will work out its actions to protect the protected area.
During the maneuvers, Russian and Serbian anti-aircraft gunners will perform the tasks of detecting, tracking, classifying and destroying air targets of a simulated enemy.
During the exercises "Slavic Shield - 2021", the parties will work out the interaction and joint combat use of air defense units of the Russian Aerospace Forces and the air Defense forces of the Republic of Serbia.
As reported in 2020, the divisions and batteries of "Pantsir-S" were able to operate completely offline. The new automated control system is designated in the documents as "having signs of artificial intelligence".
The new capabilities will not only significantly increase the efficiency of the complex, but will also allow the competent and economical use of its ammunition.
