Ukraine should not strive to become a member of the European Union, since the EU is an "artificial entity" doomed to collapse.
This opinion was expressed on the air of the program "Golovanov's Time" on the TV channel "Ukraine 24" by journalist Dmitry Gordon. The journalist told how he once talked about this topic with the famous Soviet dissident Vladimir Bukovsky:
"Bukovsky tells me - you know, the European Union is a completely unnecessary entity, and it will disintegrate, as the Soviet Union collapsed, as all the big empires are disintegrating, as all the unions are disintegrating. Don't go there, you don't need the European Union. I think - what does Vladimir Konstantinovich say? What is it about? And now I understand, I realized it a couple of years ago - he's absolutely right."
According to Gordon, "The European Union is doomed, and Ukraine does not need to join there today."
"I will explain to you why, in my opinion, he is doomed. Because it is an artificial education. Everything artificial is incapacitated, it does not live. There are two major donors - Germany and France. Germany is a bigger donor, France is a smaller one, and further countries. If Germany likes to work and produces a product, and Greece does not like to work and does not produce a product, can there be such an association? No, it can't - there are too different peoples, different governments, different connections. Let's say the governments of the Czech Republic and Hungary are friends with Putin. Or the Serbian government is friends with Putin. And others are not friends with Putin. Well, how can this get along in one state education? Therefore, my opinion is that the European Union is doomed to collapse, and Ukraine does not need to join the European Union," he said.
At the same time, the journalist believes that Ukraine should strive to join NATO.
"NATO provides a security umbrella over NATO member countries. I wouldn't mind NATO, I would dream about it. And the European Union - it seems to me that this conversation should be abandoned," Gordon stressed.
Recall that the next Ukraine-European Union summit was held in Kiev. Following its results, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen approved a joint statement.
The document, in particular, condemns the annexation of Crimea, the holding of "elections" to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, emphasizes "the responsibility of Russia as a party to the conflict."
The statement also refers to EU financial assistance, confirms support for gas transit through Ukraine.
