MOSCOW, Oct 13 - RIA Novosti. ROSTEC has started developing man-portable air defense missile systems (MANPADS) of extended range, Bekhan Ozdoev, industrial director of the armament complex of the state corporation, told RIA Novosti.
Today, the maximum range of MANPADS is five to six kilometers.
In turn, the deputy head of the export-import department of KBM (part of the "High-precision complexes" of Rostec Corporation) Alexander Romanyuk noted that the company's designers are also working to increase the probability of hitting targets with portable anti-aircraft missile systems. We are talking about increasing the sensitivity of the MANPADS homing heads in order to ensure the destruction of such small-sized targets, such as, for example, barrage ammunition or UAVs.
KBM currently produces two types of MANPADS: IGLA-S and wIllow. The most advanced to date is the wIllow complex - it has a three-spectral homing head, which allows it to effectively hit such low-contrast targets in the thermal range as drones. The firing range of the "WILLOW" is 6 kilometers, the height of hitting targets is 3.5 kilometers.
